About KISS: The Band

Formed in 1973, KISS is one of America’s most renowned rock bands, comprising rhythm guitarist and vocalist Paul Stanley, lead singer and bass guitarist Gene Simmons, singer and drummer Peter Criss, and lead guitarist Ace Frehley. Initially based in New York, the band recorded under labels such as Casablanca, Mercury, and Roadrunner before establishing their own label, KISS.

Famous for their black and white face paint and flamboyant attire, KISS rose to stardom in the 1970s, amassing 28 Gold Albums to date. The band members adopted comic book personas, reflecting the group’s satirical and sardonic style. Stanley assumed the identity of “Starchild,” Simmons became “The Demon,” Criss portrayed Catman, and Frehley embodied the Space Ace.

The original lineup faced changes when Frehley and Criss departed in 1982, only to reunite in 1996 and 1997 for their most commercially successful period. Presently, the band continues to tour globally with Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer replacing Frehley and Criss.

KISS holds the 56th position on VH1’s Top 100 Greatest Artists of Rock and has garnered nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, yet remains uninducted as of now.
