Chief’s Fortune Slots
While still maintaining its status as a classic slot machine, there’s no denying that Chief’s Fortune represents a significant upgrade from its predecessor, Chief’s Magic, thanks to its greatly enhanced graphics, extra wild feature, and unique bonus round.
If you’ve read our review of Microgaming’s previous Chief series slot, you’ll remember that we were not impressed by its basic design and lack of engaging elements. However, with Chief’s Fortune, the studio has addressed these issues and delivered the game that Chief’s Magic should have been, even injecting some humor to create a much more immersive player experience.
Bigger and better
Although Chief’s Fortune shares the same user interface as Chief’s Magic, players will notice that every aspect of the game has been improved for a bigger and better experience. Just like its predecessor, all game information is neatly displayed on a single screen, showing both the reels and three payout tables that increase in value as you increase your wager.
Similar to the previous game, Chief’s Fortune offers the same adjustable buttons, allowing players to bet between one and three coin sizes and choose from a wide range of fixed betting amounts. The game’s top jackpot is a generous 2,000 coins, but, as in Chief’s Magic, this payout can only be achieved when betting at the maximum coin size, with 1,000 and 500 coins available at lower levels.
One key difference in Chief’s Fortune is that the chief symbol now acts as a wild, substituting for any regular icon on the three reels. Additionally, there are special arrow symbols that can trigger a bonus feature when they appear on the central payline.
New look
Just as Chief’s Fortune has upgraded gameplay from Chief’s Magic, the visuals have also received a significant makeover. Previously plain and lacking color, the chief now appears grand in his ceremonial headdress, and the background has been redesigned to feature a Native American village with tepees instead of a nondescript mountain range.
While the symbols remain the same, they have been visually enhanced with new details. For instance, the plain black BAR logos now sport an orange border, and the traditional red lucky seven icon has been given a Native American twist. The sound effects remain largely unchanged, which is typical for a retro slot machine.
The introduction of the bonus round offers a delightful break from the regular visuals. Players are taken to a new screen where they must dress the chief for a rain dance, selecting from a range of items including bunny slippers, hi-tops, traditional headdresses, and football helmets. This adds humor and allows players to win up to 600 coins.
Although Chief’s Fortune is a classic slot machine, it features a special bonus round triggered when an arrow icon appears on each space of the active payline. This transports players to a new screen where they choose the chief’s attire for the rain dance to prevent a drought.
Choosing the chief’s clothing is simple: players need to click on four cards to reveal random items of clothing, with three paytables on the right showing the value of each accessory. The highest value combination is dressing the chief in full Native American attire head-to-toe, with each item worth 150 coins.
The improved chief
Chief’s Fortune surpasses Chief’s Magic in nearly every aspect. The slot retains its classic appeal for retro gaming enthusiasts while introducing a bonus round to attract modern video slot players. With enhanced graphics, more rewarding payouts, and wild symbols to boost winning combinations, there’s no reason to return to its predecessor.
