GoodFishes Slot
You may be aware of the movie GoodFellas, but what about GoodFishes? If not, that’s understandable. GoodFellas hit the screens in 1990, while GoodFishes made its debut in 2015. Inspired by Martin Scorsese’s legendary gangster film, GoodFishes is a five-reel video slot game created by the independent software provider Revolver Gaming. Similar to the acclaimed movie, this comical 3D parody slot features gangsters puffing on cigars and carrying firearms; however, in this version, the mafia members are underwater creatures – yes, fish!
GoodFishes is categorized as a medium to high volatility slot. Built to the highest standards and fully optimized for mobile play, it offers numerous hours of entertaining fish-themed gameplay.
Sleepin’ with the Fishes
Gangsters are notorious for getting rid of their rivals by dropping them into the Hudson River with concrete shoes. However, in GoodFishes, this method doesn’t quite work: fish don’t have the ability to use their fins to toss anything, and they’re famously inept when out of water!
The gameplay in GoodFishes unfolds on a 5×4 grid with 30 fixed paylines. Visually, the game is charming. Against the backdrop of the ocean, you can glimpse a cityscape resembling a concrete jungle on the shore, possibly representing the Big Apple, once the domain of gangsters like Lucky Luciano, Arnold Rothstein, and Salvatore Maranzano. Adjust your bet using the control panel at the bottom of the screen and press the large green Spin button to initiate autoplay.
GoodFishes boasts a variety of absurd symbols, interspersed with a couple of playing card icons. Predictably, the playing cards offer the lowest payouts in the game. These cards are also adorned with bullet holes and other thematic elements. For instance, the Q symbol appears to be smoking a cigar. As mentioned, it’s all quite preposterous.
We’re no fish experts, so we can’t identify the specific species displayed on the reels. What we do know is they come in diverse colors and appearances. One wears a stylish hat, sunglasses, and wields a Tommy gun. Another savors a cigar. Additionally, there’s a female fish adorned with red lipstick. It’s all rather nonsensical but good for a chuckle. Interestingly, the three main GoodFish characters go by the names Jimmy, Tommy, and Harry. Those names sound familiar, don’t they… at least the first two.
Frankie the Fishmonger
The wild symbol in the game is represented by a clam shell containing a gun and a heap of cash. This shell can substitute for any fish or playing card icon to help create winning combinations. However, it cannot replace Frankie’s Bonus symbol. You can easily spot this symbol, featuring an octopus displaying a sign that reads FRANKIE’S BONUS. It’s quite conspicuous.
If you land three Frankie’s Bonus symbols on reels two, three, and four, you’ll activate the Frankie’s Fishmonger mini-game. Frankie isn’t just an ordinary fishmonger; he’s a shark fishmonger. As the Great White smirks for the camera, three unhappy fish dangle from a rope to Frankie’s side. Choose one of the fish to unveil any of the six bonus games. These games are revealed when Frankie slashes the chosen fish with a blood-stained machete. And how does he grip the machete, you may wonder? With his trusty fin, of course!
The bonus games offer fantastic rewards. For instance, The Big Catch provides eight free spins with a 2x multiplier on all wins during the free spins. It also triggers an ‘All Ways Da Pays’ feature, enabling you to win from left to right as well as right to left. In The Big Catch game, your goal is to capture the mafia bosses and confine them in a cage. As you lock up the fish, they grimace and cling to the bars, awaiting their overpriced attorney to bail them out.
Another bonus game awards 15 free spins, a 1x multiplier, and sticky wilds. Exciting stuff!
GoodFish? Great Game
GoodFishes is an outstanding game. Not only is it incredibly amusing, but it’s visually captivating and filled with bonus features. The game’s animation is top-notch, especially when fish swim out of the reels and unleash a barrage of gunfire. The only downside is that some players might be deterred by the fixed 30 paylines.
